Bobby Banerjee was born in Baltimore, MD. At the age of 3 he moved to England, then Scotland, back to England, and then Ireland. He went to school in India from 5th-12th grade, living in the second most populated city in the world – Calcutta. When it came time to go to college, he applied to several schools, but chose WVU. “My father was a doctor at the Weston State Hospital and always liked West Virginia.”
Bobby was initially interested in a medical career, but disliked the higher-level biology courses. A close family friend, who Bobby was living with his freshman year, worked for the U.S. Postal Service as an Industrial Engineer. Bobby thought IE sounded interesting, so he joined the IE program as a sophomore.
While in college, Bobby had two internships, one with Cytec and the second one with Pittsburgh Tube. He was also an RA in Boreman Hall. With his experience, he obtained a job with Carlisle Syntec, a leader in the commercial single-ply roofing industry. In this position, Bobby performed a number of classical IE projects.
After two years at Carlisle, Bobby was recruited to join Exel, a third party logistics and warehousing company that managed supply chain functions for other companies. “I worked with our clients from the signing of the contracts to the start-up of the facility. This included implementation of facility design, construction management, material handling equipment sourcing, systems setup as well as testing and training, rack installation, and ultimately all start-up activities. Clients that Bobby worked with included: Energizer, Pratt & Whitney, Procter & Gamble, 3M, Kimberly-Clark, JM Smucker, Unilever, Toys-R-Us, Walgreen, and other well-known Top 100 Fortune 500 companies.
DHL, a German global market leader in logistics industry, acquired Exel. After working with DHL for several years, Bobby decided to pursue another opportunity with DB Schenker, a lead supply chain management and logistics provider. In this position, Bobby oversaw the Program Management Office for all projects in the Americas.
After about two years with DB Schenker, Bobby was recruited to join Kane is Able, a Pennsylvania 3PL that provides third party warehousing, logistics and supply chain services including transportation throughout the US. He was recruited by a former colleague at DHL to become the Vice President with responsibility for Program Management, Quality, and Regulatory.
Throughout his career, Bobby has lived in one location, Harrisburg, PA, but his work has taken him all over North America, APAC, and Europe. “We live in a global economy and IEs are well situated for this economic reality,” Bobby concludes.
