Ganesh Iyer moved to the United States from India to pursue a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering. Passionate about optimizing complex processes, systems and organizations, he followed a close friend to West Virginia University. Boosted by a scholarship, he became a research assistant at the school’s Industrial Assessment Center and gained valuable experience helping manufacturers to reduce energy consumption, waste and improve their overall productivity.
Ganesh started his professional career at Benteler Automotive. Over the next 14 years, had a series of diverse assignments with increasing responsibility and complexities that prepared him for his current position as vice president of Engineering, Research & Development for Martinrea International Inc., a global manufacturing company that supplies all of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers.
Ganesh credits the foundation provided by WVU and a mentor he met and followed early in his career with a lot of his success. He also tries to live and manage day-to-day with the overall principles of treating everyone with dignity and respect.
“I’ve found that when you treat people with dignity and respect and really listen to their ideas and what they have to say, you build strong relationships that help you to achieve great things,” he said. “I think that’s a critical management skill for everyone.”
