Ritchie Soos came to WVU with the goal of becoming an Industrial Engineer. He thought he would work in manufacturing, but his career has been totally focused on the healthcare industry.
His senior internship was with NIOSH. This gave him an exposure to the health side of Industrial Engineering, but it was connections to our alumni in the health care industry that led to his start in healthcare.
SunHealth interviewed on campus and Richie was offered a position with them. For most of Ritchie’s early career, he worked as a consultant helping hospitals reduce costs and become more efficient.
The threshold moment in Ritchie’s career was when he was asked to take on more of a sales role. This involved a real leap of faith for Ritchie because he would be moving more to a commissioned based compensation.
The move paid off for Ritchie because he has been very successful in extending the reach of Premier to other parts of the country. Ritchie has also helped expand Premier’s scope of services to more of an enterprise level set of services.
Ritchie credits a lot of his sales success to the team he works with. “Sales really is a team effort,” Ritchie says. It also helps that Ritchie is also very familiar with the services he is selling since he provided these services early in his career.
Ritchie advises students who want to pursue a sales career to be certain they can handle the ups and downs associated with contracts. “Getting a contract is great, but when you lose a contract, you take it as a personal failure.” Ritchie says. “You have to have a lot of confidence in yourself.”
Ritchie Soos is a seasoned healthcare sales and performance improvement executive with history of consistently strong and proven results.
