Pratik gained an Industrial Engineering degree in India and decided to come to the U.S. for a master’s degree. He had a number of friends who had come to WVU and talked highly of our program.
When Pratik completed his master’s at WVU, he was accepted into the MBA program at the Wharton School of Business, one of the top business schools in America. When asked about his preparation for Wharton, Pratik comments: “My IE degrees were perfect preparation for an MBA. The broad background we get in operations efficiency, statistics, and operations research gives you the thought processes to succeed in a top MBA program.”
After graduation from Wharton, Pratik has had one of the most diverse career paths of any of our graduates. He has worked in a medical products company, staffing companies, and in information technology companies. Pratik comments that the transition from one type of company to another hasn’t been that difficult. “The fundamentals are always the same: people, processes, and technology. All you have to do is understand the new context.”
Pratik has also become a serial entrepreneur. He founded his own company, Mylatch, Inc., to challenge the labor intensive and expensive processes that employers use to find the talent they need. Many of his ideas are becoming standard practice by employers today.
Pratik sold Mylatch and used the financial resources he gained from the sale to eventually acquire Shield Watch IT and Web Services. Again, Pratik is challenging current practice by integrating IT services under one umbrella organization. “Traditionally our clients had to contract with a number of firms to secure the IT support they need. We provide for all of their needs.”
As a serial entrepreneur, Pratik is always on the lookout for other opportunities. “My IE background gives me the unique combination of technical and business perspective to develop and grow entrepreneurial organizations.”
Pratik has also been involved in charitable activities. He has served as a Director and a Treasurer of the Heartbeat Foundation, an organization that accepts donated pacemakers and distributes them to underdeveloped countries.
