Amol Mate received his Industrial Engineering degree from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology in India. After graduating, he went to work for Vishay (formerly Philips India Ltd.) doing traditional Industrial Engineering. “One of the best things I’ve done in my career was to get shop floor experience before I pursued my Master’s Degree,” he says. “My Masters was more meaningful because of this actual experience.”
Amol came to WVU to pursue a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. Dr. Gopala was his advisor, and he worked in the Industrial Assessment Center. When Amol returned to India he returned to work for Vishay where he worked for a year and half.
For the next 13 years of Amol’s career, he worked for three organizations in a series of progressively more responsible consulting positions. In 2016, Amol joined Altizon Inc., a leading industrial internet of things (IIoT) company. “We add value to the capital investments companies make on production resources including men, machine, material and tools in the supply chain and plants.” Amol sees this as the future of Industrial Engineering.
“Essentially we capture real time data from assets and then use this data to make the asset more effective.” Since its beginning, Industrial Engineering has studied manual operations using time studies and methods analysis to make these manual operations more efficient. What Altizon is doing is applying these same concepts to other industrial assets. Data analytics is critical to their new direction in manufacturing and for a future digital factory.
Amol is the Vice President of their Industrial Business Unit. He has responsibility for bringing new applications on Altizon’s industrial IoT platform in such areas as manufacturing equipment performance, predictive maintenance, predictive quality and digital supply chain.
Amol found the transition to WVU from India to be difficult in the first few days, but soon found the campus environment to be very welcoming. “All the faculty had an open door policy and were very supportive. “What I wished that I would have done would to have taken more courses in statistics and operations research. Amol is continuing his education by pursuing a PhD. “I really feel that my career path has placed me at the forefront of the future of Industrial Engineering.”
Amol Mate brings over 16 years of operational and consulting experience, in the areas of Industrial Engineering and Supply Chain Management from Asia, Middle East, and North America region. Six Sigma Green Belt certified, Amol is passionate about improving quality and manufacturing processes using technology. He speaks at various conferences on Industrial IoT and Smart Manufacturing and contributes to industry articles. He is currently responsible for Product Management and Consulting at Industrial Business Unit at Altizon Systems. Prior to Altizon, Amol has served in UMAS, Philips, Infosys, I2Technologies in variety roles contributing towards business growth and customer satisfaction.
